Mareshet is a Surrealist painter originally from Philadelphia. Her works in Acrylic consist of dream-like scenes that evoke narrative renderings of new perspectives found after unexpected life events. Each series generates a concept that the soul will always live on, extending the material world. Each series also depicts a battle through the stages of grief and the process of finding peace after it. This is captured in sequential order through layers of a darker palette in the unbalanced and weary stages. The final stages are introduced with whimsical backgrounds and are embraced with a sense of relief.
Aside from works in acrylic, her collections in oil are less conceptual and focus on capturing the details of brick walls, storefronts, and graffiti in distinguishable neighborhoods. Both mediums and styles play a significant role in telling a complex and sincere story. Mareshet focuses on capturing the presence of nature, its changing seasons, inorganic elements, such as metal structures, and its stillness in connection with mankind's curiosity. She has studied using various mediums, such as alkyd, mixed media, and charcoal, and currently uses the direct painting method and Grisaille technique to complete her works.
Mareshet stated, “Sometime ago, I met a fellow Artist, a musician who shared his beliefs regarding the purpose of expressionists. He said something that stuck with me: “All inventors of art finish artworks that they were not able to complete in their past life”.
“After that statement, it motivated me to continue sharing the stories that were passed down to me, rendering them once more in this lifetime”.
